A Clam-P was born.

 

Life has it's funny way of working things out.

In 2010, The Obama Administration started a program to promote green jobs and assist individuals who were unemployed find a career in solar.  During that class, when I observed how the solar panels were installed using the typical rail system, from a contractor's stand point, and a DIY standpoint, it just seemed to labor intensive to remove a single panel. (Especially on a steep pitched roof.)  I knew there had to be a more efficient way.  I drew few sketches on paper, but I knew I had to make a functioning prototype to test before I moved onto the extrusion stage, so I did what most guys in my situation would do...go to Home Depot.  I literally said to myself, "I'm not leaving here until I make the prototype."  I ended up being in Home Depot for about 3 hours, and half the store employees asked, if they could help me. 

What I ended up coming out with was this...

I used a large picture frame to simulate as the solar module to test the clamp.  It ended up working out extremely well, and that meant I was able to move onto the next stage.

I didn't have a budget to work with, but since the system has a low, 2-part system, I knew the initial costs were reachable.  

 

And so, a Clam-P was born.  

 

With the Single Bolt series, using just the Clam-P and I Beam mount, I was able to install a full sized solar PV system on a residential roof, using the Enphase M215 micro inverter.  From that first residential install, the world's first universal microinverter mount was introduced into the market.

 

The Single bolt Series is where it all started.  You mount the Clam-P onto the panel, and the middle bolt is what connects you to the I-Beam.  It's only two parts.  Combined with the Mi Clam-P, it was the least amount of parts for any residential mounting system in the industry.
